In the mid-twentieth century Christian Restorff started building a new hotel in Thorshavn. The hotel opened in 1951 and was named "Hafnia". The following decades the hotel expanded drastically, and as time went Hotel Hafnia became the biggest hotel in the Faroe Islands.
In 1988 the sons of Christian took over the company, following the footsteps of their father. Johan and Martin Christian were running the hotel with Johan as the director. The sons walked their fathers footsteps. Their biggest passion was to provide a good service to their guests. The hotel was renovated and developed so that it was now comparable to international standards.
In the winter of 2005 the hotel got new owners once again. This time not Restorff relatives. The new owners are Osmund Justinussen and his sons: Tummas and Gunnar, and also Per Sævik from Norway.
