Where Katrina Christiansen stands today the activity dates back to the early 1700’s. The house has had at least four different names: Bartskersstova, Skálahús, hjá Restorff, hjá Heinesen and hjá Katrinu Christiansen.
In addition to business activity from barbershops to general shops it should also be noted that Faroese author William Heinesen was born there and spent his childhood years at “hjá Heinesen,” as the house was named back then. Today, Heinesen is considered one of the Faroe Islands’ most accomplished writers. Throughout his career, he received prizes in literature such as the “Swedish Academy Nordic Prize” in 1987 and was also appointed “Tórshavn’s citizen of honor” in 1980.
Although minor repairs have been made, everything potentially preservable has been maintained. Furthermore, lots of rare objects that belong to the house have been restored and put on display.
The food in the restaurant is inspired by the Spanish tapas-cuisine but completed with influence from Faroese food tradition, as well as everything that the Faroese nature has to offer.
